Otago B Ahead Trist 7 For 70

(From Our Own Reporter) DUNEDIN. Although Otago B gained a 10-run lead in the first innings in the match against •Canterbury B at Dunedin yesterday, the Canterbury medium-fast bowler, D. G. Trist, dominated the day’s play. Trist took seven Wickets for 70 in Otago’s first innings and featured in a 43-run lastwicket partnership with N. Kelly. The Canterbury captain. G. T. Barrett, put Otago in to bat. The Otago openers. S. Hunt and W. Kerr batted confidently for the first half-hour but from then Trist was in conmmand.

Otago was dismissed shortly after lunch for 183. Canterbury lost the early wickets of I. M. Walter and P. E. Wallace but aggressive batting in the middle of the order by D. W. Stead, forced the scoring rate. Batting at No. 10, Trist showed great confidence and produced shots of which competent batsmen would be proud. Scores were:—Otago B 183

(W. Kerr 64. C. J. McDonald i 38, S. Hunt 32; D. G. Trist 7/70, K. A. Nicholson 2/52)1 and 35/1 (W. Kerr 22 m0.).1 Canterbury B 173 (D. W. Stead 55, D. G. Trist 35; N. G Smith 5/47).
