Golf Lessons On Full Pay

The Australian Government is paying the expenses of a former serviceman in Vietnam who wants to become a professional golfer. The Australian Minister of Repatriation (Senator G. C. McKellar) said in Christchurch yesterday that a rehabilitation scheme in Australia made this possible. The former serviceman was entitled to one year’s free golf tuition on full pay at a rate determined by the Arbitration Court.

All servicemen in Vietnam were entitled to special rehabilitation concessions when they returned home. These included a $6OOO long-term, low-interest loan to go on to the land, a similar loan of $3OOO to go into business, or free tuition with pay to resume a career started before being called up for national service.

In addition, servicemen were entitled to low-interest loans to enable them to buy their own homes. Senator McKellar is on a private visit to the South Island with Mrs McKellar and his private secretary, Mr C. E: Clarke, formerly of Christchurch.
