CANTERBURY SHEEP
Small Rise In Numbers Between June, 1967, and June last year sheep numbers in Canterbury increased only 0.24 per eent, and ewe numbers rose 2.27 per cent. Of the 10m and more sheep in the province more than 7.25 m were ewes. These figures have been issued by the Government Statistician (Mr J. V. T. Baker). In a number of counties in the province sheep numbers declined. In Ellesmere there was a drop of 6.06 per cent and ewe numbers fell 5.61 per cent. However, in some areas there were good increases. In the Amuri county sheep numbers rose 6.93 per cent and ewe numbers 5.11 per cent. In Paparua there were rises of 6.76 and 13.84 per cent, and in Oxford of 5.60 and 9.25 per cent. In Marlborough sheep numbers dropped 0.49 per cent but ewe numbers increased 2.10 per cent. In the Nelson Province sheep numbers rose 3.41 per cent and ewe numbers 5.24 per cent and in Westland there were increases of 7.47 and 10.38 per cent. Rebel Flag in London.— The new green-and-white flag of rebel Rhodesia was flown for the first time yesterday over the Salisbury Government’s semi-official mission in London, A spokesman for the Foreign and Commonwealth Office commented: “We know of it.
