Two Wins For Trainer

Friendly Jane and Walk Alone, both from C. V. May’s Methven team, gained splendid wins in the races for two-year-olds at the Akaroa Trotting Club’s equalisator meeting at Motukarara on Saturday. Friendly Jane won the race or fillies by a head from Viva-

cious, with Bonnie Joe a good third. The winner paced the mile in the splendid time of 2min 15sec, a really fine run considering the strong wind which affected the horses in the front straight. Friendly Jane is a half-sister, by Garrison Hanover, to last year's New Zealand Sapling Stakes winner. Friendly Forbes. She is raced by Mr and Mrs F. W. Jarman, of Darfield. Walk Alone, a half-brother by Bachelor Hanover to the 1967 Sapling Stakes winner, Royal Walk, raced away from Doctor Kimble in the race for colts and geldings and recorded 2min 16 sec for the mile. He looks a good staying type and should be a great prospect in the autumn. He is raced in partnership by his trainer Mr D. S. Harrison, of Methven. Sam Tryax, after drifting a little at the start, had every chance, but he was beaten off third. He has missed some work lately and might not be quite at his best. He is booked to race next at Forbury Park. The strong wind was too much for the horses in five qualifying heats and none approached the: required time of 3min 26sec for' 12 furlongs. The meeting was held In fine,' hot weather and there was a, large crowd. There were two doubles. The first, won by Friendly Jane and Dryden Frances, paid $4O for 50 cents, while the other, won by Walk Alone and Oscar, paid $75. Results.— QUALIFYING TEST RACE, 12f First Heat: Roberta It R. H.
