FINAL ROUND TO DECIDE CHESS
(New Zealand Press Association) WELLINGTON. O. Sarapu (Auckland) shared the lead in the Rothmans national chess chamionships with B. Anderson (Christchurch) yesterday. They had 8! points after 10 rounds.
Sarapu’s game against A. Day (Auckland) was adjourned yesterday and Anderson won his game draw to draw level. G. Hall (Christchurch) has eight points and an adjourned game against C. Evans (Auckland).
Other positions are:—A. Fenderides (Wellington) 7, B. Deben (Wellington) 6, Day 4J, C. Evans, V. Lushcott (Wellington) 3), G. Hasse (Dunedin) and Z. Frankel (Wellington) 3, E. G. A. Frost (Wellington) N. T. Fletcher (Wellington) 1. Sarapu will play Hall in the final round today. There were some adjourned games in the reserve grade which might alter the final results. B. A. Carpinter (Christchurch) still leads with eight points and all games completed.
P. B. Goffin (Palmerston North) has 7} points, G. Kerr (Dunedin), I. R. Gordon (Wellington), J. Arbuthnott (Tauranga), R. Shaw (Wellington), P. Daly (Auckland) and W. Lynn (Nelson) 6.
