Cheese Quotas Preferred
fNew Zealand Press Association) WELLINGTON, December 25. New Zealand would prefer quotas to other measures to combat the present situation of the British cheese market, the Minister of Agriculture (Mr Taiboys), said recently.
Speaking at Wellington Air- i port after his return front a 1 five-week visit to Britain, 1 West Germany, the Netherlands, Belgium and Istael, i he said he had told British < ministers that New Zealand I would prefer to see quotas established. "Our primary goal is quo- 1 fas, but when the British ’ Government decided to seek ’ a system of voluntary restraints we expressed our 1 willingness to co-operate,” he 1 said. On Friday the Government 1 lodged a Note with the Brit- ' ish Government supporting > the anti-dumping application < for countervailing duties ■
made by the British Milk Marketing Board and the National Farmers’ Union. The Note also expressed strong concern at the present disruption of the cheese market
Relations Resumed. With tacit approval from the British Government, a London impresario has engaged the Bolshoi Ballet and another Russian dance troup to appear in Britain next year. The engagement represents a renewal of British-Soviet cultural relations disrupted after the Soviet invasion of Czechoslovakia in August.— London, December 25.
