Five punters bought 32 tickets for the jackpot after praying for the grace of Lord Venkateshwara, deity of one !of India’s most richly enidowed Hindu shrines at Tiruipati, near Madras. The punters pledged their god a sixth share of any winnings. Two of their tickets jwere successful and Lord Venkateshwara received 68,123 rupees (SNZ8108). i The jackpot share will go ito swell the assets of Lord i Venkateshwara, who is estimated to have an annual income of more than 25 milllion rupees (5NZ2,974,000) [from donations, levies on piligrims, and revenues from land. I The funds are used to run a university, hospitals and other charities.
