Nixon Meets U Thant
(N.Z.P.A.-Reuter—Copyright) NEW YORK, Dec. 17. President-elect Richard Nixon, will today meet the United Nations’ SecretaryGeneral (U Thant) to demonstrate his support for the world organisation and its peace-keeping efforts. Mr Nixon’s aides said the Presiednt-elect hoped particularly to emphasise his backing for peace initiatives in the Middle East, which he has described as “the world’s most dangerous problem.” Mr Nixon will be making his first visit to the United Nations for 12 years, and there is speculation that he may use the occasion to announce his choice of Mr Sargent Shriver as the new United States permanent representative to the United Nations—an assignment fori which the American Ambas-I sador to France has been reported front-runner.
