Coach

One of Canterbury's most notable Rugby players of the post-war years, R. M. Smith, will coach the Christchurch club's senior team next year. The present coach, Mr J. Sawers, is retiring after three years in the position. A specialist left wing, Ross Smith played 137 matches for Canterbury, a total exceeded only by D. Young. Smith scored 104 tries in first class games and also reached a century of tries for the Christchurch club. He was an All Black in 1955.
