WORN TYRE HAZARD
Although a new tyre loses only one-fifth of its grip on the road surface when running at 60 miles an hour on one millimetre of water, a worn tyre with only Imm of tread loses two-thirds of its grip under the same circumstances. says a Swedish tyre [manufacturer. A new tyre has about 10mm of tread. With Imm of water on the road, the worn tyre will aquaplane—run over the top of the water and lose all grip on the road—at 45 miles an jhbur, assuming the tyre is inflated to 23 p.s.i., the report says. When the tyres aquaplane the car is out of control, and braking or turning the steering wheel will have no effect. I
