Selection Board For Cook Fellowship
(New Zealand Press Association) WELLINGTON, December 16. The president of the Royal Society of New Zealand (Professor J. A. R. Miles), announced tonight the composition of the selection board for the Captain James Cook Fellowship, which is to be administered by the society under a Government grant.
Professor Miles said the
I Governor-General (Sir Arthur [Porritt) had accepted the invitation of the Minister of )Internal Affairs (Mr Seath) to be chairman of the board.

ciety on the board are Professor Miles, who will be deputy chairman, and Dr E. I. Robertson, the society’s international secretary and also Assistant Director-General of the Department of Scientific and Industrial Research. The National Research Advisory Council will be represented by Dr A. T. Johns, Director-General of Agriculture and Mr A. L. Poole, Director-General of Forests, The representatives of the Vice-Chancellors’ Committee of the New Zealand Universities are Dr D. R. Llewellyn, Vice-Chancellor, Waikato University, and Professor C. F. W. Higham, professor of anthropology, University of Otago. The selection board will meet for the first time on Wednesday to plan for the fellowship to be widely advertised in New Zealand and overseas early in 1969. It is hoped to select and announce the name of the first Fellow during the Cook bicentenary celebrations in October, 1969. The Fellow would probably take up his appointment early in 1970, the statement said.
