‘BUTCHERED’ BLUEGUMS
Complaint By Resident A complaint by Mr I. G. ■ Clark that bluegum trees at! Stewart’s Bush, Avonhead,! had been “butchered in a! ghastly council mistake” was) considered by the Waimairi) County Council last evening. ! It was no consolation, said: Mr Clark, for residents to be' told that the trees would! develop a new sky-line in a few years—they would never look like bluegums again. The County Engineer (Mr A. J. W. Lamb) said the trees were diseased, and an experienced contractor had trimmed them. There was not enough lower growth to enable a more satisfactory shaping. It was intended to develop the reserve with native trees, and until they became estab-! lished, some exotic trees) would be left.
