Democracy . To Stay (N.Z. Press Assn.— Copyright ? | SAIGON, Dec. 16. President Nguyen Van Thieu said today "the Vietnamese people have adopted democracy and will preserve it at any price.” He added that the country “will never accept any Communist organisation in our territories.” President Thieu was speaking to the opening session of a conference held by the world anti-Communist League, with delegates from 34 nations.
The South Vietnamese leader made no direct reference to the Paris peace talks, snagged by procedural questions, but he did say: . the Communist imperialists must deal directly with the Government and the people of Vietnam about all items concerning our situation.”
Greek Rule.—The Greek Prime Minister (Mr George Papadopoulos) has said that Greece must remain under martial law. At the same time, in a 90-minute speech to professors and youth leaders in the Parliament Building yesterday, he promised Greeks social welfare benefits.—Athens, December 16.
