Hurricane Losing Intensity
(New Zealand Press Association) AUCKLAND, Dec. 15. Auckland and Northland could feel the backlash tomorrow of the hurricane which has been moving south-east towards New Zealand over the week-end.
By late last night the hurricane was centred about 600 miles off North Cape and appeared to be losing intensity as it moved south. Gusts of up to 30 knots are predicted for Auckland tomorrow. Gisborne, however, is expected to experience gale force winds later tomorrow. Winds of 80 knots were reported today by a ship to the north-west of the Kermadec Islands. Late tonight there were no reports of damage from the effects of the hurricane.
Since its beginning, according to the meteorological service the hurricane has moved steadily in a south-west direction at about 30 knots.
