This is a position of specialist status and applicants should have been qualified for a minimum period of eight years, have had five years experience in Rheumatology and possess an appropriate higher -qualifica lion. However, applicants who have been qualified for a minimum period of six years including four years practical experience in Rheumatology plus a higher qualification will also be considered. The appointee will be required to establish a unit for the investigation and treatment of Rheumatic disorders, including both inpatients and outpatients from the Board’s area. His work would co-ordinate with the work being carried out at Queen Elizabeth Hospital, Rotorua, which is New Zealand’s specialist hospital in Rheumatic and allied diseases, and which also comes under the control of the Board. He will also be expected to carry out such general medical duties as from time to time may be required. The successful applicant will be required to have obtained or obtain registration in New Zealand before taking up duties. Salary and conditions will be in accordance with the Hospital Employment (Medical (Officers’) Regulations in the .scale $6020/8100, the actual comjmencing rate to be determined by the Director-General of 'Health having regard to previous experience and qualifications. The successful appointee will be a nurse who is deeply interested in professional education. who will accept the challenge of administering a department with extensive I ramifications, and who enjoys{ the exchange of ideas possible when working in co-operation with other members of the total health service. The position of Supervising Tutor Sister to the Waikato Hospital Board is combined with that of Principal, Waikato School of Nursing. Approved training schools are • already established for the Basic Nursing Programme at Waikato and Rotorua Hospitals, and for the Community Nurse Programme at four institutions. A Post Certificate Programme in Operating Theatre Nursing is offered at the Base Hospital and the Supervising Tutor Sister will also participate in planning all in-service educational programme. Development plans are in hand for the Board’s whole area and this is a key position in future progress and expansion. The salary initially will be in the range $3llO to $3240 plus the interim ruling rate increase but it is hoped in the very near future that the position will be moved into the scale $3360 to ?3470 plus interim ruling rate increase. A Specialist is defined in the New Zealand Hospital Employment Regulations as a person qualified for at least 8 years, and having 5 years practical experience in the Specialty and possessing an acceptable higher qualification (General Surgery is accepted as a Specialty).
