State Coal Price Up
M.Z. Press Association)
WELLINGTON, Dec. 6.
The price of State coal was to be increased to cover the effect of the General Wage Order and new railway freight rates which would apply from next week, the Mines Department said today. In a statement, it said the retail price at State coal depots would be increased by the minimum amount necessary to cover the two cost factors.
The wholesale price to merchants and industrial customers would increase equivalent to the extra freight charges only. The spokesman said the State coal depots could not absorb the additional costs, and it would be unfair to other merchants if it did absorb the costs.
