RANDOM REMINDER
OLIVER !
Of ail the great stories in English literature, "Oliver Twist” must surely be counted among the most moving. Some of the pathos of Dickens' story was retained by Lionel Bart when he wrote "Oliver”': but there is a gaiety and swing with this musical which made it one of the outstanding successes in the history of light entertainment. The New Zealand premiere of “Oliver!" is at the Odeon Theatre on Thursday, December 19. it is through the courtesy of Sir Robert Kerridge and Columbia Films (N.Z.), Ltd. that the premiere is
to raise funds for charity; and it is through the happiest of coincidences that the money raised will be devoted to the Cholmondeley Home in Governor's Bay. For more than 40 years, the Cholmondeley Home has been a refuge for children in unfortunate circumstances youngsters without the bastion of the protection home life should offer, because their mothers are ill. or there has been a death in the family, or because of parental desertion. Dickens could, perhaps, have written more “Oliver Twist’s" from the sad recital of the circumstances which have made
the work of the Cholmondeley Home of such importance and value. With the premiere of "Oliver!” the people of Christchurch are invited to help the splendid community service of the Cholmondeley Home. They are invited to apply for tickets (circle $2.50. stalls $2.00) to the Secretary. Cholmondeley Home, Box 1041, Christchurch. But they will have to hurry, if they want to help, and to enjoy one of the great musicals of our time. Applications must be received by tomorrow. Be one of those to assist, and to enjoy the strong story and the lilting music of Oliver!"
