Bulldozer On Cliff Edge
(From Our Own Reporter) TIMARU, December 6.
Mr W. M. j. Plumridge, of Temuka, had to leap from the bulldozer he was driving on the property of Mr A. D. Trotter, “Lancewood.” Fairlie, when the machine struck a wet patch and slid to the edge of an 800 ft bluff.
Mr Trotter said this evening that the machine was being used in fence-laying on Tuesday and was pushing a track from the top of the hill when it slipped over the edge of the track. Efforts to retrieve it had been unsuccessful.
Owned by C. W. Welsh, Ltd, of Fairlie, the machine is balanced on the edge of the cliff and, in the opinion of Mr Trotter, could fall free for 200 ft to 300 ft and roll the rest of the way. Heavy rain had increased the problem of recovering the bulldozer, the manager of the contracting firm (Mr P. S. Kemp, of Timaru) said.
