Calvary Chapel To Be Opened
A new SBO.OOO cruciformshaped chapel at Calvary Hos ipital will be opened and I blessed by the Roman Catho|lie Bishop of Christchurch (the Most Rev. B. P. Ashby) on December 15. I The chapel, which will seat 'l5O. will replace the old [chapel, which has served the [hospital and staff for more [than 50 years. I Building began about 19 months ago after the first sod was turned on May 1. 1967 [by the provincial of the [Little Company of Mary, the order which runs the hospital. The building is of reinforced concrete with brick facings and a tiled roof. The exterior also includes panels of Charteris Bay stone a> well as white plaster. A feature will be an electronic bell system imported from Ireland and incorporated in a 62ft high aluminium tower in the centre of ’the building. The system will (play various chimes including the Angelus and an amplifier arrangement will be placed in the tower.
