Antarctic Visitor

General H. M. Estes, commander of the Military Airlift Command of the United States Air Force arrived at Christchurch at 2.53 p.m. yesterday. Travelling in a Starlifter. General Estes is inspecting facilities of the com mand round the world. Information on where he has come from and where he is'going after he leaves New Zealand is not avail able. As well as looking at U.S.A.F facilities at Christchurch Airport. General Estes will make a one-day visit to the Antarctic today leaving about 3 a.m. if the flight is possible. He will inspect the ice-runway at Williams Field and other facilities at McMurdo Station before returning to Christchurch later toy* v.

General Estes has visited Christchurch before on annual tours of inspection.
