Association Wants More Branches
Much still had to be done before the Electrical Asso- [ ciation for Women in New Zealand could be satisfied ' that its message of safe, knowledgeable and efficient use of home electrical equipment was understood, the - president (Mrs G. M. Samson) said in the annual report. ! “That there is a need for such understanding is evident from the many questions ' we are asked when we talk to | women’s groups and by the malpractices and concern we meet.” said Mrs Samson. [ Christchurch was the only centre in New Zealand with a [branch of the association, and la decision had to be made on how to interest women in :other, centres in New Zealand. I she said. Much could be done. too. for elderly people in the way of warmth with complete safety. “Although we know electricity, when properly used, is
(the cheapest and safest; method today, investigation (could be made of the cost to [pensioners, many of whom dread the electricity bill every two months,” said Mrs Samson. Miss D. Hill-Holmes had re(presented the branch at the (national conference of the Electrical Association for Women tn Great Britain and the information she had acquired would be studied care- ; fully. i The branch had more than 100 financial members. The committee had decided that members who completed the, course on electrical repairs and maintenance satisfactorily would receive certificates; of proficiency, Mrs Samson re-! ported. '! “It has also been suggested; ■ that we should be vitally con-; [cerned with the work of the (Clean Air Society and the committee has agreed that we [should become members. The I president of the Clean Air Society has asked that we be represented on its executive,"! i she said.
