MEMBERSHIP DECLINE

Aust. Wharf Unions

(N.Z. Press Association) TAURANGA, November 19. The Waterside Workers’ Federation of Australia had reduced its membership from a peak of 27,000 in 1955 to 19.000 in 1968 because of increased mechanisation in cargo handling, and further reductions could be expected. The general secretary of the federation (Mr C. H. Fitzgibbon) gave this information in an address to the annual conference of the New Zealand Waterside Workers’ Federation in Tauranga today.
