Italy’s large Communist I Party, and the ruling Christian Democrats won substantial gains in local elections, involving nearly 2.000,000 Italians, during the week-end. the Associated Press reported. Scattered returns showed the Communists gained seats in new municipal councils, and in a new regional council in the Trentino-Alto Adige, on the Austrian border.
