FORECAST TO MIDNIGHT Situation.—A deep depression centred south-east of the South Island is moving eastwards ; a disturbed westerly airstream covers the southern Tasman and New Zealand. Forecast: Canterbury.—South-westerlies, freshening at times; showery about the ranges, elsewhere variable skies and a few showers; moderate temperatures, Marlborough.—Winds between west and north-west strong for a time in exposed places and probably decreasing later in the day; mainly cloudy; showers developing; moderate temperatures. Nelson.—Winds from a westerly quarter, strong at times; showery about the western ranges and scattered showers elsewhere, chiefly this morning; moderate temperatures.
