Trade With China
Sir,—The New Zealand delegation of businessmen returning from a trade mission to Japan look very impressive, but while they were visiting Japan the Chinese were holding their autumn trade fair in Canton. It is well known that the Japanese are keen buyers at the Canton Fair.; so it is likely that much of;
the raw materials used by the Japanese in their goods is in fact Chinese. 1 hope that this will not deter the trade mission. However, it would be advisable to buy direct from the Chinese. They have over 3000 kinds of fabrics, precision machines, and instruments, all kinds of chemical products, medical apparatus, metals and processed steel: and in foodstuffs they have grain, edible oils, tea, rice, [sugar and canned foods. The fair is visited by large numbers of buyers from various parts of the world.—Yours, etc., P.J.A. November 19. 1968.
