Animal Welfare
Sir,—The New Zealand economy based on animal husbandry, should be focused upon the overwhelming need of an “Animal Bill of Rights.” May we deserve the trust bestowed upon us for “dominion," not exploitation, for care and company on a dangerous shared journey upon this speck of universal star-dust from whose atoms all were raised. Let the S.P.C.A. educate the public lin animal welfare. Let a qualified trained staff and fully-
I equipped hospital in the city be provided for day and allnight service for accident cases, and residence for sick pets needing nursing under veterinary supervision for which owners would in many cases willingly pay. Yours, etc., REMEDIES. November 18, 1968. Sir, —There are many who can assure Eileen McNeil that a large majority of Christchurch citizens do care. The lov. membership is not due Ito lack of interest but to an (outdated policy by the S.P.C.A. There is no empha(sis put on assets other than legacies, so the outlook of (the society is in keeping with its membership. No vigorous representations arc made to various councils on animal welfare and breeding restriction. Under the present conditions, there can only be (waste of expenditure, and a very limited amount of good done.—Yours, etc., PROGRESS WANTED. November 19, 1968.
