NEW TYRE WARNING

A new type of tyre with bias-angle plies and a glassfibre belt under the tread has been announced in Europe by Goodyear. Called the Decathlon, it is claimed to give the ride of a conventional tyre with the long wear and superior road-holding of a radial. But the manufacturers have warned that the tyres should ideally be fitted as complete sets, and if fitted in pairs should be used on the back wheels only. They should never be fitted to the front wheels only, and should not be mixed with radial-ply tyres, the company says.
