The M.G. Car Club held a 171-mile economy run during its Kurow weekend rally recently. On actual miles a gallon figures the winner was G. Sigley (Austin Healey Sprite) with 57 m.p.g. A. Carroll (M.G. Midget) was second with 53.5 m.p.g., B. Reed (Sprite) third with 51.1 m.p.g., then came G. Robinson . (Mini) 49.7 m.p.g., R. Stephenson (Mini-Cooper) 49.3 m.p.g.; L. King (Sunbeam Alpine) 45.2; R. Marks (Midget) 42.4: J. Wood (TR3) 41.9; R. Nicholl (Cortina) 40.0; D. Craig (MGA) 38.2; R. Archibald (MGB) 35.2; L. Hartley (Midget) 32.1.
The results of the R.A.T.E.C.-Rothmans Alpine Rally have now been declared final. * :js S: The Vintage Car Club’s annual rally will be started at the Northlands shopping centre tomorrow morning by Sir George Manning. The vehicles will cover between 30 and 90 miles, depending on their age. * Ss sS The highlight of the year had been the formation of a fourth branch of the club in Otago, the president of the Jowett Car Club (Mr G. G. Walker) said in his annual report recently. The club’s 245 members now owned 273 cars, only seven of which were not Jowett models. All branches of the club had been very active, and the Christchurch branch had 58 members.
