METHODIST WAR STAND
Second Motion Passed (N.Z. Press Association) NEW PLYMOUTH, Nov. 13. Less than 24 hours after defeating a resolution which called for the withdrawal of New Zealand troops from Vietnam, the annual conference of the Methodist Church of New Zealand tonight passed a second motion reaffirming the church’s opposition to the fighting in Vietnam.
Today the conference unanimously adopted a remit which said: “The conference in no way repudiates its earlier stand against New Zealand participation in the war in Vietnam but now desires to put its whole weight into peacemaking negotiations and the rehabilitation of the land and peoples of Vietnam.” The resolution was the result of two accusations today of misrepresentation and inaccurate reporting of the Tuesday night session of the i conference.
