'Perimeter Of Prurience’
i N.Z Press Associdtion) DUNEDIN, Nov. 14. Advertising under the name of “Sally Mills,” Paul Alexander Turnbull, aged 24. a smallgoodsman, claimed to be able to obtain "naturalistic” magazines—described by his counsel, Mr J. M. Hanan, as a foolish venture, “starting on the perimeter of prurience," when Turnbull appeared in the Magistrate’s Court today for sentence on two charges of false pretences.
Turnbull now realised the seriousness of his behaviour but found it impossible to explain, Mr Hanan said, adding that some of the publications his client offered were already on sale.
“Not here. I hope,” said Mr J. D. Murray, S.M., fining Turnbull $lOO. What amazed him, said the Magistrate, was that some 230 persons were stupid enough to send Turnbull replies, often containing money, in answer to his attempt to make “a quick dollar” by trading on an unhealthy attitude to sex.
