INCREASE FOR M.P.s
Drivers’ Union “Really Hot” (N.Z. Press Association) WELLINGTON, Nov. 14. A 450-strong stop-work meeting of the Wellington Drivers’ Union at the Trades Hall today empowered its executive to take action to make up the difference be- | tween the receqt Court of Arbitration 5 per cent general wage order and the 7 per cent increase granted by members of Parliament to themselves, said the union secretary (Mr K. G. Douglas) today. “Members were really hot about the increase the Parliamentarians’ gave themselves, and spoke at length on their feelings on this subject,” he said. The meeting had endorsed the new wages and conditions gained through recent stopwork meetings and subsequent discussions with the Wellington Master Carriers, said Mr Douglas.
“Members welcomed the provisions in the agreement to set up a joint committee of union and employer representatives, to discuss and try to overcome problems facing both groups in the industry,” Mr Douglas said.
