Leaders Clash In Men’s Tourney
Tomorrow’s third round of the Canterbury senior men’s tennis competition will leave a clear leader after the clash of the two pacesetters, North Linwood and Beckenham.
North Linwood, last season's winner, is trailing a rejuvenated Beckenham, last season’s bottom, by one point, 27 to 28, but the situation is deceptive. Neither has had a bye, whereas the next two teams, Woolston (15) and United
(14). have both had byes. Tomorrow. Woolston will play Edgeware (4), and United will play Elmwood (4). Linwood Avenue (4) has the bye. Top singles will bring two old rivals. J. Mitchell (Beckenham) and J. Martin (North Linwood), together. B. Aldridge (Woolston) will play P. Boatwood and R. McCutcheon (United) will meet W. Thom.
The senior women, who missed their second round ; last Saturday because of wet , courts, will play their third i round as follows:—Elmwood (15) v. North Linwood , and Beckenham (0) v. Shir- , ley (0). Edgeware (16) has I the bye. North Linwood has not yet ' had a match because of a bye I in the first round, and Beck- ■ enham actually had a point . but lost it because it failed i to return a score sheet. Miss S Field (Elmwood) i will play Miss E. Ogilvie • (North Linwood), and Mrs P. . Duckmanton (Beckenham) i will meet Miss G. Hampton , (Shirley).
