RICCARTON MAY GET CLEAR LEAD
Riccarton, one of three teams sharing the lead in the Canterbury senior cricket competition, should secure maximum points against East Christchurch-Shirley tomorrow and take a clear lead.
Its overnight total of 117/51 has placed Riccarton five runs ahead of its opponent while the co-leaders, St Albans and High School Old Boys, are by no means assured of first innings points. St Albans, having lost three valuable wickets for 65 runs, will depend much on the batting of J. M. Ruston and J. W. Burtt in its attempt to head Sydenham's 152. Similarly, B. G. Hadlee and C. J. Stevens, the only senior batsmen each to score two half-centuries this season, and C. L. Bull, who has been sadly out of touch in his previous innings, will be charged with the responsibility of taking Old Boys, 11/2, past West Christchurch • University’s modest total of 119/6 declared. In the fourth match. Old Collegians, only 22 runs behind Lancaster Park’s tally of 108 with eight first innings
wickets remaining, should move off the bottom the competition ladder.
