WINNER OWNED IN SINGAPORE

Daryl’s Joy, one of four youngsters bought at Trentham last January by a Singapore businessman, Mr R. K. C. Goh, broke through for his first win in the Irwell Handicap at Riccarton yesterday.

The Woodville-trained Stunning colt had earned this win after four placed runs, which included a second to Far Time in the Welcome Stakes on the first day of the meeting. A member of S. A. Brown’s successful team, Daryl’s Joy was ridden by W. D. Skelton. Far Time, which beat Daryl’s Joy by half a head in the Welcome Stakes on Saturday, made a game bid to win again yesterday, when he carried top-weight of 9st 31b, 51b more than the winner. The Woodville pair steadily pulled away from the others in the final three furlongs. A furlong out they were almost

level and four lengths clear of the best of the others. At the end they were battling it out seven lengths clear of the third horse, Find It. It was graphic evidence of the superiority of the North Island youngsters. Clarendon Imp was two and a half lengths back fourth, weakening from third position in the final furlong. Gold Nip was the best of the others.
