The Nun’s Tale

(N.Z. Press Assn. —Copyright) LONDON, Nov. 12. “Miss Philippines” says she entered the current “Miss World” beauty contest to show that nuns can be beautiful and to honour her convent back home. Back home the convent she named said it had never heard of her. United Press International reported. Miss Arene Amabuyok, aged 17 and measuring 35-24-35, said she was a novice at the Dominican Santa Rosa Convent in Makati, near Manila. In Makati, there is no convent but only a high school of that name. Santa Rosa High School is run by Roman Catholic Missionaries, the Siervas de San Jose, not the Dominicans. Miss Gilda Villaluna, the secretary of the school, said the school did not know Miss Amabuyok and if she were a novice she could not have left the convent, much less join the beauty contest.
