PIGS IN SHOW
Praise By Judge "The over-all standard of entries at this show is the best I have seen at any show in New Zealand,” said the judge of all breeds of pigs (Mr P. McLean, of Te Ore Ore. Masterton) Some 149 entries are being exhibited, including 66 Large White pigs, 49 Landraces, 10 Berkshires. seven Tamworths. and 18 porkers and baconers Pigs in the section for porkers and baconers were of an exceptionally high quality, said Mr McLean. The quality of Landrace pigs had also been hard to fault. "The Large Whites were all outstanding pigs, and any in this section could have won a prize,” he said. "Seme were just better turned out than others.” The Berkshire pigs were all good examples of their breed The champion boar, under 24 months, G. F. Timperley’s Mountley Sovereign First, had been a particularly good animal. The pigs in the Tamworth sectton, however, had not been of such a high standard and some had not been brought out so well. The supreme champion boar of the show, and champion Landrace boar, R. L. Skilling’s Lochwood Supreme 33rd, had been of a very high quality, said Mr McLean. It had stood on its feet very well. Competitors intending to enter pigs in other shows should watch the animals* feet carefully, he said. Some at the show yesterday had been carrying their back legs. Others could also have been slightly more conditioned.
