Govt Aid Urged

(N.Z. Press Association) HAMILTON, The captain of the New Zealand team at x the Mexico Olympic Games, D. C. Oliver, of Auckland, has urged more support for sport and suggested the formation of a ministry of sport. Speaking at the “New Zealand’s Sportsman of the Year” dinner, he said that with millions being spent on the advancement of sport in other countries. New Zealand had no chance of keeping pace unless positive action was taken. “It is all very well to claim New Zealand did well for its size, but it was more important to consider how poorly New Zealand might be doing considering its resources,” he said. He urged the formation of a ministry of sport with the responsibility of looking at the questions of facilities and coaches for the instruction of youth.
