THE PRAYER DROPPED

(N.Z. Press Association) AUCKLAND, Nov. 11. The prayer which formerly opened meetings of the Auckland Regional Authority has been dropped. The previous chairman. Mr H. D. Lambie, began the practice of reading a prayer. “The last thing I’d like would be to start off a religious argument,” said the new chairman, Mr T. H. Pearce, after Mr L. E. A. Andrews asked why the prayer had not been read

He was supported by Mr I. W. McKinnon, who said that as a business meeting, the authority’s monthly meeting should be conducted on a business basis.

The meeting decided by 23 votes to nine to drop the prayer.
