The president of the Victorian Lawn Tennis Association (Mr Harry Hopman) has accused the Lawn Tennis Association of Australia of acting weakly in sanctioning open tennis.
“The Australian association is breaking the International Lawn Tennis Federation’s rules under the present agreement with the professional promoters,” Mr Hopman said “In the contract, the association has agreed to the professionals sharing in the gross profits. This contravenes the international rules on the matter.”
The Australian association has decided the Australian championships in Brisbane, and the New South Wales, Western Australian and Tasmanian titles will be open tournaments this year.
