Three Newcomers In Softball Squad

Three players who have not previously represented Canterbury—N. G. Mattison (Richmond, B. Stull (Deep Freeze) and A. Schadel (Deep Freeze) —have been included in the 12-man provincial squad from which all Canterbury men’s softball teams will be selected this season.

Mattison, who is also a promising Rugby league back, graduated through the lower representative grades and Stull and Schadel are Americans stationed at Harewood. Another newcomer, D. Daw (Richmond), who was inclu-

ded in the original selection, has withdrawn and been replaced by his club-mate, R. Storer. Richmond, with five players included, has the greatest representation, including the captain and first base, D. W. Lew. The vice-captain will be C. Chee (Papanui). The Canterbury selectors (Messrs R. Marshall and K. Bingley) have made provision for the inclusion of two other players should they be required. The squad is.—Pitchers. K. Smith, D Chee; catcher. Stull; first base, Lew; second base, R. Mansfield; third base C. Chee; short stop. R. McKenzie; outfield, R. Mullally. Storer, Schadel: utilities Mattison. P. L. Joyce.
