R. Hearn Tells His Story
(N.Z.P.A. Staff Correspondent) LONDON. In a series of articles headed “My Fight for a New Life,” the former England Rugby international, R. D. Hearn, has begun in the “Sunday Mirror,” the story of his progress since being injured in the match between the Midland and Home Counties and the All Blacks in October last year. The newspaper termed the series: “The triumphant story of a Rugby star who overcame the cruellest blow that can strike an active young man—paralysis.” Now, more than 12 months after he became paralysed following a head-on tackle with the All Black vice-cap-tain, I. R. Macßae, Hearn is again teaching economics at Haileybury College, Hertfordshire. and helping to. coach the first Rugby XV from a wheelchair on the touchline.
The first article in the series is accompanied by a picture of Hearn doing exercises in his wheelchair. It was taken by the New Zea-land-born photographer, William Rowntree.
