Warm Welcome In Santiago
(N.Z. P.A.-Reuter—Copyright) RIO DE JANEIRO, Nov. 12. Queen Elizabeth flew to Santiago yesterday after scoring what one British Minister called “a tremendous personal hit” during her State visit to Brazil. Lord Chalfont, Minister of State at the Foreign Office, accompanying the Queen and the Duke of Edinburgh, told reporters that the visit—the first by a British sovereign—would also have a mediumterm effect in stimulating trade relations.
He said he hoped it would encourage British firms to participate in capital projects in this “crucial market of the future.” The Minister said he had been impressed by the warmth of the welcome given to the Queen and the Duke. The Brazilian Foreign Minister, Mr Jose de Magalhaes Pinto hailed the visit as marking a new stage in BritishBrazilian relations and very useful to both nations.
Queen Elizabeth was given a warm welcome by thousands of cheering Chileans on her arrival.
