MOON SHOT

Americans May Go

(N.ZP.A.-Reuter—Copyright)

WASHINGTON, Nov. 12.

Plans to launch three United States astronauts into a Christmas orbit round the moon are due to be unveiled in Washington today. Officials of the National Aeronautics and Space Administration are expected to announce the decision to send Apollo 8 on a lunar orbital mission, after final evaluation of last month’s Apollo 7 earth orbital flight. The Apollo 8 astronauts, Frank Borman, James Lovell and William Anders, are expected to spend three days travelling to the moon, make about three orbits and return to earth by December 28. The mission’s objectives will be to check ground tracking equipment, the spacecraft’s navigational equipment and long-distance communications.
