Halswell Zoning
Sir,—As an attentive listener at the public meeting at Halswell I question Mr Warren’s claim that most of the questions asked by “Interested Voter” were there answered by Miss Northcroft. Your correspondent’s question regarding unanimity in acceptance of the scheme was answered, quite fortuitously, by the councillor who told the meeting that he wished it to be known that he had voted against the scheme. Surely the people of Halswell, and in particular the many whose interests will be affected adversely by a scheme, the severity and rigidity of which —I think I am correct in saying—is unknown in any other part of New Zealand, are entitled to know:—(a) the number of councillors who voted for acceptance, (b) the number who voted against acceptance, and (c) the number of abstainers, if any. —Yours, etc., ALSO INTERESTED. October 27,1968. [Cr D. H. Warren, chairman of the Paparua County Council, replies: "I am informed that all councillors of the Halswell County Council were present at the meeting on December 14, 1967, when the Halswell district planning scheme was approved for submission to the Ministry of Works. The council members at this time were Crs J. Y. Pethig, P. Wynn-Williams, R. H. L. Hamilton, D. P. Graham, J. A. Coakley, D. S. Anderson and H. J. A. Lynch. The council's decision to adopt the scheme was unanimous and the former councillor mentioned as having stated that he had voted against the
scheme referred, I understand only to the location of one of the commercial zones in the Halswell township and not to the scheme as a whole.’’]
