Charge Of Murder
(N Z. Press Assn.—Copyright) LOS ANGELES, Nov. 8.
Two brothers from Chicago were arrested on Wednesday charge of the bludgeon slaying of the old-time screen star, Ramon Novarro, United Press International has reported. The police arrested Paul Robert Ferguson, aged 22, a house painter and his brother, Thomas Scott Ferguson, aged 17, in the suburb of Bell Gardens. Detectives said that they were guests of Novarro at his Hollywood mansion on the night of his death. Novarro died on October 31, from suffocation caused by a savage beating that left a trail of blood through his $150,000 home in the Hollywood hills.
“We have substantial physical evidence to connect them with the crime scene,” said a spokesman at the North Hollywood Detective Bureau. As far as was known, he said, the brothers were Novarro's only guests at his home the afternoon and evening before the body was discovered sprawled face up in a kingsized bed. The names of the Ferguson brothers “came up in conversation” with other people interviewed in the investigation, detectives said.
