Left Out

(N.Z. Press Association) AUCKLAND. The test wicket-keeper, R. I. Harford, and last season’s Wellington captain, D. Neely, are surprise omissions from an Auckland cricket squad of 24 players named yesterday. Harford has lost his place to two younger wicket-keeper-batsmen, S. Speed and R. Dykes. Speed was Auckland’s ’keeper two years ago and Dykes played in four Plunket Shield matches last summer when Harford was not available. Last season Neely finished eighth in the first-class averages, at 39.62, scoring 317 runs for Wellington, including 132 not out against Otago.
