Remarks On Shipping
“Remarks attributed to me on the subject of the Conference Lines in The Press' recently have been taken out of context and given a meaning and intensity which was unintended,” said Mr S. C. Scott, president of the Associated Chambers of Commerce of New Zealand, yesterday. “In fact, my remarks on shipping, one of nine major subjects discussed at the annual meeting of the Ashburton Chamber of Commerce, centred on the reading of Associated Chambers of Commerce policy on this subject, and referred specifically to the excellent physical service provided by the Conference Lines. Two ships currently in Timaru were mentioned by name in this connection. “I am distressed that the publication of my remarks completely out of context and in terms which I do not recognise should have distorted my statement to such an extent,” said Mr Scott.
