Cherries At High Price
The first cherries at Christchurch produce markets this season sold for what is believed to be a record price of $1.16 a pound on Thursday. The previous record was 81.04. The cherries, a consignment of two 101 b trays, were sent to Christehurch from the Fulford Brothers’ orchard in Havelock North and were at least a week ahead of cherries from other areas. Three Christchurch retailers bought the cherries, which were available to the public at 35c a quarter pound.
