ROYAL COMMONWEALTH SOCIETY ESSAY AWARDS PRESENTED.—A photograph taken at St Andrew’s College yesterday, when Mr K. H. Bartlett, president of the Canterbury branch of the Royal Commonwealth Society, presented awards won last year by former pupils in the schools’ essay competition held by the society. Mr Bartlett is shown handing the Flower Cup to Geoffrey Moreton, the Christchurch area winner. Other prize-winners present are David Tait (second from right), whose essay was judged second best in the whole of the Commonwealth, and Michael Lithgow (right), who received a Commonwealth certificate of commendation. Looking on is the headmaster of St Andrew’s, Mr I. T. Galloway. The Flower Cup will be held by the college for a year.
