Bartlett, president of the Canterbury branch of the Royal Commonwealth Society, presented awards won last year by former pupils in the schools’ essay competition held by the society. Other prize-winners present are David Tait (second from right), whose essay was judged second best in the whole of the Commonwealth, and Michael Lithgow (right), who received a Commonwealth certificate of commendation. Looking on is the headmaster of St Andrew’s, Mr I. T. Galloway. The Flower Cup will be held by the college for a year.
