Help From Burnside
A cheque for $460. to buy • rote-caster and sub-soiler machine for the South Pacific College of Tropical Agriculture in Alafua, Western Samoa, was presented to the district organiser for C.0.R.S.O. (Mr B. H. French) on Friday, by pupils of Burnside High School. The equipment to be sent to the college was on display at the presentation. The money, the school’s annual effort for overseas aid, was raised by the pupils from a “Miss Burnside” contest, sweet and hot dog stalls, a mufti day, talent quests and dances.
Mr French said last evening that the college, which bad been established with a gift of $160,000 from the C.OJR.S.O. Freedom From Hunger Campaign, had been opened in 1966. Grants had also been received from the New Zealand and Samoan Governments.
This year $3OOO worth of material for the college would be sent by G0.R.5.0. in New Zealand, he said.
